“Analog Captures Digital Faith” (Fomapan 100)

Film observes a ritual that does not belong to it. The smartphone records a wish, and analog records the act of recording — as if the city is testing which of the two remembers better. The hands of lomografik become a bridge between eras: holding a digital gesture the way one would hold an old postcard. And the tree of desires receives yet another layer of faith — not only a lock, but a photograph of someone photographing it.

Technical Details:
Moscow, Kadashevskaya Embankment, Luzhkov Bridge
Camera: Zenit‑35F (Lens: Minitar‑1; ƒ/8; Shutter Speed: 1/125 sec.)
Film: Fomapan 100 Classic B&W Negative Film (expired 03/2007)
Photo taken: 11/06/2017
Scanner: Noritsu LS‑1100
Model: the hands of lomografik, capturing a digital ritual
Scanner: Noritsu LS-1100 (#printbypro)
Philosophy: “Every faith seeks a vessel — digital chooses the screen, analog chooses time.”

The hands of Lomografik, large and analog, held a tiny little glass plank. Upon this plank lived a pixel. The pixel desired to photograph a metal tree draped in a thousand rusty superstitions. The superstitions clinked, promising eternity, yet the utility worker with a bolt cutter was already sharpening his tool just around the corner. Lomografik performed a swipe. The stringer performed a shutter release on the plastic Zenit. "Klack!"—and all this digital fuss, along with its concrete hopes, got forever stuck within the grainy layer of ten-year-expired Fomapan. Because anti-photography isn't about what you shoot; it’s about how you despise its fleeting nature.

“The grandest irony of our time is attempting to secure a moment of eternity with a smartphone destined to be obsolete in two years, all while in the crosshairs of a film camera that will outlive eternity itself.”

“The Halo Photo-Duel: The Sun Drew a Circle Around the One Who Tried to Capture the Sun”

On Petrovsky Boulevard, reality challenged itself to a duel. The Stringer and @Lomografik — two mirrors, two flashes of light. The halo isn’t a lens flaw but proof that the city photographs itself. Each ray is a nerve, each frame a diagnosis. For a moment, Moscow became the camera, and man — its film.

Technical Details:
Location: Alexander Garden, Moscow
Camera: Zenit-35F (Lens: Minitar-1, ƒ/8, 1/125s)
Film: Fomapan 100 Classic B&W (Expired 03/2007)
Date: 03/06/2017
Scanner: Noritsu LS-1100 (#printbypro)
Philosophy:  “When light decides to shoot first, photography becomes an act of self‑recognition.”

The stringer stood on the boulevard holding something unknown. This unknown thing was very small, yet it bit fiercely with silver halide film. Suddenly, Lomografik walked up and performed a resounding "click." The stringer also performed a "click," though slightly to the left of his armpit. The sun, exhausted from watching such photographic geometry, curled itself into a glowing bagel and settled directly onto the stringer’s shoulders. The fair buzzed, gingerbread was sold, and two humans temporarily turned into glass elements, refracting 2007 straight into 2017.

“A ring flare is not an optical flaw; it is the only honest border between the one pulling the trigger and the one caught on the other side of the shutter.”

Three Witnesses to the Void

Someone else’s breath
on the glass of the old camera.
Night is not empty.

Here you are — yes, you. I’m staring at you through this broken little window and saying it plain: you are not alone.
You sit there with your laptop open, pretending the room is yours, pretending silence means absence.
It doesn’t.
They live in the blur, in the dust, in the chemical ghosts left on the frame.
Two girls. One boy. Or maybe not even that — maybe just the shape of a visit.
They’re always there, wherever you are, as if the world keeps a second copy of your room and never tells you about it.

“Kebab House Beside Oblivion” (Svema 65)

Shade and heat,
taste as memory,
smoke as prayer.

Here, time grills itself on coals, and space smells of spice and dust. The façade becomes a stage where life repeats its ritual of taste and waiting.

This roadside kebab joint once stood a few steps from the darkroom “Sreda,” a place where film lovers surrendered their negatives to chemistry, hope, and the occasional miracle.

The kebabs here were famously described as “deliciously wrong,” a phrase that worked less as praise and more as a declaration of artistic intent. The building looked like it had been assembled from leftover decisions, yet it held its ground with the confidence of a structure that knew flavor could outlive architecture.

Both the darkroom and the kebab stand have vanished, leaving behind nothing but a stubborn aftertaste in the city’s memory. In this photograph, the ordinary becomes myth: smoke as narrative, grease as philosophy, and a humble shack as the last honest monument in a neighborhood that has since forgotten how to be imperfect.
