A common mistake beginners make:
They see a line and immediately try to draw that line.
Instead, ask yourself: What is this line describing?
A plane?
A curve?
A volume?
A change in direction?

When you start thinking this way, drawing becomes much more logical.

Why do your drawings sometimes look flat?

Usually, the problem isn't the details.
It's that the form wasn't understood before the details were added.
Start with the structure. Build the volume. Then add the details.
This simple change can completely transform the way you draw.
I explain this approach step by step in my book "Draw, not Copy".

Most people try to draw what they see.

I teach something different: understand what you see first.

When you understand the form, drawing becomes much easier - even when you are drawing something you've never seen before.

This is the idea behind my book and video courses: "learn to draw, not to copy."
