Photograph by @capturesbycara | While on a bird-watching trip in Brazil, my mom and I talked about how much we'd love to see a sloth in the wild. We kept a close eye on the cecropia trees, hoping for a glimpse of a sloth high in the tree canopy. Imagine our joy when we saw this three-toed sloth right off the trail at Reserva Ecológica de Guapiaçu (REGUA) in Cachoeiras de Macacu! We both shed tears of happiness and excitement, marveling at our amazing world and the creatures in it.

Named for their habit of hopping rather than waddling along rugged shorelines, they are characterized by the spiky black-and-yellow feathers on their heads.
