The concert is over, I officially got a bachelor’s degree in international relations. For me, this is not just a piece of cake, but a solid foundation for further research and another confirmation that I can claim expertise.

But what is a bachelor’s degree in the modern world? Just the first step. Literally in a few hours I apply for a master’s degree, and if everything goes as planned, I will continue this path to graduate school and a degree of a Ph.D.

To be honest: every year, starting from the second year, I panicked that the day of diploma delivery would never come. I constantly thought that I would fail miserably somewhere, or that I would simply not live to live for physical reasons. This day seemed an unattainable dream, which eventually became a reality.

How it went: on Saturday my family came to visit me. When you live 1000 miles away from home, such moments are appreciated many times more, because you never know when you will see your loved ones next time - in six months or in a year. We immediately went to Viipuuri, where we spent two great days: a wonderful hotel, medieval streets, a walk on a yacht and the bay.

And then came the day. I had the honor to give a speech from the graduates. My mom sincerely asked me to do without my usual «jokes». But I decided not to change myself and gave a speech in my style: energetic, lively and honest.

I wished my classmates to appreciate family and said hello to my dear mother, saying that it was her work ethic and her eternal desire for something new that had always been the best example of how to work hard. I urged the guys never to stop learning, even if it would lead them to spheres far from international relations. And I ended my performance on a high note with a beautiful moto: “Per aspera ad astra!”

And then it was time for the diploma ceremony itself. I happened to go to people who handed out diplomas to the dean. And then the dean started calling me by my name so that I could go to her, and then I signed for the diploma.

More ahead. May God bless us all! 🙏🏻
